Before I went into reenacting, I had no idea what it was, then one day I was asked if I wanted to be part of a reenactment; I said yes...
Now because of that I have made many new friends and even learned skills that I hadn't before I joined. Reenacting is something that basically anybody is able to do, and you don't even have to be a history buff; you'll learn that history as you go, and you will be taught everything you need to know by people that are willing to help whenever. I joined because of my love for understanding history and having fun of course. Now I know how to tie a knot and set up a tent.
Our most recent event at Buckskinner Park really exemplifies all of that. The first day we got together and helped each other set up camp, then we attended a parade downtown for all to see. Immediately after that it began to pour.
The tents were flooding and the ground turned into a swamp, but we all got together and held out under the fly with all of our stuff and played music and waited out the storm. That kind of memory is something I will always remember. But our reward for the rain was 4 really fun battles where we ambushed the union and fought a twilight battle with muzzle flashes in the dark.
